Frequently Asked Questions

Currently, APA (NSW) is only able to cover NSW Ambulance employees with Paramedic qualifications employed under the NSW Paramedics and Control Centre Officers (State) Award. This includes probationary Ambulance Officers and Control Centre staff with Paramedic qualifications.

Every day APA (NSW) takes up fights on behalf of members to demand a better, fairer workplace for all of us. 

Members and delegates are also working incredibly hard on the We Deserve Better Campaign to fight for better pay and conditions for staff and a better healthcare system for the people of NSW.

APA (NSW) is a member led organisation, meaning that every member has an equal say in the direction of our union.

APA (NSW) offers casual and part time membership options with a reduced fee of $11 a fortnight. You will still be entitled to the same industrial advice and support, Professional Indemnity Insurance, and Ausmed access as before.

Please get in touch via our contact form to request the conversion of your membership from Full Time to Part Time or Casual. We will send an email confirmation once this is complete.

Ensure that you are logged into the website. Then:

• Select ‘Update your payment details’
• Select your membership type (Full Time, Part Time, or Casual) in the dropdown menu
• Accept the member of convenience rule and member statement
• Input your payment details

Once this is complete you will receive email confirmation from our website.

At APA (NSW) we appreciate you keeping your station up to date so that we can inform you of specific industrial matters. It is important to let us know when you move stations. The same applies for if your role within NSW Ambulance changes.

If you are not receiving email correspondence from APA (NSW), please get in touch via our contact form to let us know. We can resubscribe you to the email list, or rectify any other potential mistakes that may cause the emails to bounce back.

Upon joining APA (NSW) you should have received an email invitation to join Ausmed. If you have not set up your account yet, you can do so through the initial link from the organisation. The account is linked to the contact email you initially supplied us with, so ensure that is correct.

To cancel your membership with APA (NSW), please get in touch via our contact form. Once we have processed your resignation, you will be sent an email to confirm completion.

Yes, APA (NSW), is a registered trade union.

The membership of APA (NSW) is limited to NSW Ambulance employees and as such all members are bound by NSW Ambulance Media and Social Media Policies. The only protection for members is to ensure comment from APA (NSW) is reported from the correct source. This will ensure accuracy and continuity of all outgoing information for use in the public domain as well as protect members. The Media Officer's details are on the website and all requests should be referred to them.

You are covered from the moment you become a financial member of APA (NSW). However, you will not be covered for issues that occur prior to you joining APA (NSW). If you have not received information from the Association within 4 weeks via email, or bank deductions of subscription fees have not commenced within 2 pay periods, please contact us via our contact form. 

If you join after a workplace issue has arisen you will be considered a member of convenience. Members of convenience are not provided support for issues that arose prior to them becoming members.

The above mentioned restrictions do not apply to any new workplace/industrial issue/s that arise after membership is approved that has no connection to the workplace/industrial issue/s which arose prior to membership.

APA (NSW) works closely with a law firm that provides advice and assistance on workers compensation matters for emergency services personnel. APA (NSW) does have an in-house industrial team that works specifically on industrial issues, however they are unable to provide legal advice.  

APA (NSW) does not provide advice or services with respect to criminal or civil matters arising outside the course of employment.

A member of convenience is a person whose membership request has been received after a workplace/industrial issue/s has already arisen. Members of convenience are restricted in the legal and industrial support afforded to them by APA (NSW).
