APA (NSW) Member Update
Corowa Relief Dispute
Friday 6 April 2018
We refer to our previous member update regarding the Corowa relief dispute which was lodged in the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) by the Health Services Union.
The matter has now been finalised. The IRC reinforced and upheld the strong recommendation it provided previously. That is, relief must be shared between all officers at Corowa Station. The IRC viewed this recommendation to be a fair and equitable process to be implemented with respect to relief.
The decision in this matter moves away from the historic practice of ‘dedicated relief officers’ (ie. last officer to come to station performs all relief work). The impact of this decision on other stations around the State remains to be seen. We will ensure that NSW Ambulance fully consults with the Union and employees with respect to any significant changes they wish to impose. Individual circumstances will be considered and pushed by the Union if required.
